Why Horses?
Our relationships to others propel us forward into a deeper sense of self. This is especially true of horses. Horses give us immediate, non-judgmental feedback. They react to their environment, so we do not have to second guess their messages.
Because horses are prey animals, when they encounter danger, they run. And it often takes purposeful communication to calm them; they must understand one another’s needs to move from a frightened herd to a calm and individual horse. We can learn to recognize ourselves through their actions. We can ask ourselves, what do I need when I am feeling scared? What do I need to feel calm? How do we come to fulfill that need is at the heart of coaching.
Finding out ‘how’ with another allows you to take the first step towards your goal. Horses have a subtle communication style. Sometimes the messages from the horses become apparent even after your time at The Resting Place. Much like every leaf is unique, the horses are as well, and they will communicate with you in their own way. The energy you bring to each coaching session varies and you may connect with different horses, or guides, depending on your mood and the atmosphere of the day.

Dusty was born on May 13, 2012 and moved here, with his father Smokey, on December 12, 2015. Like any parent knows, kids are always getting into things. This is true of Dusty: he is a curious and playful being, for he is always getting his nose into things. If you’re looking to find a way to connect with your inner child, Dusty will be your guide. He is a wonderful playmate who wants to be a part of whatever you are doing. |
Cadencio was born on January 23, 1993 in Tennessee. He grew up in the show horse environment, but he found this line of work too stressful. He detached himself from his environment and wouldn’t communicate with people. When we met, we came together without preconceived notions: I saw him as a beautiful soul, and he saw me as an equal. Together, we gave thanks and he came home to stay on Thanksgiving Day 2015. He found himself again on the farm and became something of a sage. Cadencio received his Angel Wings on Feb. 2, 2021. We continue to connect with Cadencio and find his widsom here at The Resting Place. |
Smokey was born on July 13, 2007 and moved here on December 12, 2015. He is a miniature stallion, and he’s got the heart of a Clydesdale. The love that he feels towards his family means more than food, for he will leave his grain to make sure his family is okay. This is unique in horses, so if you want to feel and learn from Smokey’s love, come out and spend some time with him. |
Teddy was rescued from slaughter in November of 2016 by Bella Run Equine. He was very skinny and needed to be dewormed. He is thought to be born in 2004. It does not matter to us when he was born. He came to us on October 26, 2017 with his buddy Popcorn. Bella Run called him Brody. I changed his name to Teddy. His change in name happened when I noticed his color and "teddy bear" like qualities. He’s truly become a teddy bear! Teddy is the resident connection expert and the ambassador of change, for he welcomes new and returning guests with a heart now full of love. |
Popcorn was rescued from slaughter by Bella Run Equine in April of 2017. He is living his best second life. He is presumed to be born in 2004 too. As a National Show Horse, he suddenly found himself near rock bottom. He was both skinny and scared when Bella Run Equine saved him from the Slaughter Pipeline. He needed a change. Today he’s found himself again on the farm. He likes to think of himself as a nationally registered jock, goofball, and gentle soul. For those that appreciate strength, athleticism, and gentleness, he is an ideal companion. |
